Why College is the Ultimate Time to Attend Concerts

By Alyssa Laffitte on August 5, 2018

When people think of college life, they think of busy students staying up all night studying. But it doesn’t have to be that way! College students can have a lot of fun, too. In fact, here are a few reasons why college is the best time to go to concerts.

You have a relatively regular schedule that allows you to plan ahead

Concert tickets usually go on sale weeks or months before the actual event takes place. If you want to go to a concert, you need to know by that time if you will be able to go. You don’t want to risk buying a ticket months in advance for a concert you won’t be able to attend. As a college student, you might have a predictable week-by-week schedule, so you will know well in advance if you are free on certain nights of the week. This regular schedule makes it easy for college students to plan ahead to attend concerts. For example, if you know you have a team meeting every Thursday night, you know you can’t go to a concert on a Thursday night. But if your Fridays are usually free, you know you can go to a concert on Friday night. Your relatively predictable week-to-week schedule makes it easy for you to plan ahead and to know if you can actually make it to the concert.

However, when you work a full-time job, especially if it’s a position that requires you to be “on-call,” your schedule will not be so regular. With an irregular schedule that fluctuates from week to week, it won’t be so easy to know if you will available at the time of the concert. What if you are asked to pick up someone else’s shift during the night of the concert? What if you are “on-call” that night? You would have wasted your money on the concert ticket because you couldn’t plan ahead. You don’t want to purchase tickets weeks (or even months) in advance for an event you might not even be able to attend because you have to work.

When you know in advance if you will be available, it’s easier to plan to go to a concert. For that reason, college is a good time to go to concerts.

You have friends close by who can join you for the concert

When you are in college, you are surrounded by your friends almost all the time. You live next door to them. You go to class with them. You eat with them. You always bump into them as you walk across campus. This is why college is so conducive to growing friendships. Having friends close by makes it easy to recruit them to join you for the concert. Over dinner at the dining hall, you can easily invite your friends to go to the concert with you. You might end up with multiple friends who will want to go with you!

Bringing friends will make the concert experience all the more fun because you will have more people to enjoy the show with! When you get older, your group of friends will probably be dispersed around the country (or even the world!). You will no longer be in such close proximity to them. Because of this, it will be harder to make plans with them. Take advantage that you are close to your friends in college, and go to a concert with them while you still can!

You might get a student discount on the tickets

Another reason college is a good time to go to concerts is because you might be eligible for a student discount when you buy the tickets. Student discounts are hidden everywhere! Companies that do give student discounts often don’t like to advertise them, so you will have to do a bit of research to find them.

Still, it’s very possible that with a quick Google search, you could find a student discount for the concert you would like to attend. (Of course, student discounts are not offered everywhere, but it’s still worth the time to check it out.) Once you graduate, you will no longer be eligible for student discounts. So go to concerts while you are still eligible for a student discount on the tickets! You will save money and have fun!

The concert might even be given at your campus

College is a good time to go to concerts because the concert might happen in your own backyard! Many college campuses host concerts. Check your school’s calendar of events to see if your school will be hosting any concerts on your campus soon. It’s worth going to campus hosted concerts, especially if they are free!

Your college experience doesn’t have to be “all work and no play.” Consider attending a few concerts during your college years, as college is the best time to
